Laser Hair Removal Course for Nurses
Registration
Hair is made of keratin, a protein produced in hair follicles in the skin. It has three parts: the cuticle (outer layer), cortex (middle layer with pigment and strength), and sometimes the medulla (inner core).
LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a device that emits light through a process where atoms are excited and then release energy in the form of coherent, monochromatic, and highly focused light.
Patient assessment in hair removal involves evaluating the client’s medical history, skin type, hair color, and any contraindications (like medications or skin conditions) to ensure safe and effective treatment. It helps tailor the hair removal method (e.g., laser, waxing) to the individual’s needs and minimize risks.
Patch testing in laser hair removal is a safety procedure where a small area of skin is treated with the laser to check for adverse reactions like redness, burns, or pigmentation changes. It helps determine the appropriate laser settings for the individual’s skin type before full treatment.
A nurse aesthetician must follow strict safety and hygiene protocols during laser hair removal to prevent infections and injuries. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining clean equipment and treatment areas, following laser safety guidelines, and ensuring proper skin preparation and aftercare for each client.
Post-care after laser hair removal involves avoiding sun exposure, heat (like hot showers or saunas), and harsh skin products for at least 24–48 hours. Clients should keep the treated area clean, moisturized, and use SPF to protect the skin. Following these protocols helps prevent irritation, pigmentation changes, and ensures optimal results.
Laser hair removal effectively targets unwanted hair on areas like the forearms, underarms, and legs by using concentrated light to destroy hair follicles. It is most effective on coarse, pigmented hair but can also reduce fine vellus hair with multiple sessions. Treatment is customized based on skin and hair type to ensure safety and optimal results.
Laser hair removal for men’s beard and mustache contouring shapes and reduces facial hair density using targeted laser energy. It helps define the beard line, remove stray hairs, and create a clean, groomed appearance. Multiple sessions ensure effective and lasting results while minimizing skin irritation.
